Agleague matchweek 20 roundup

The competition intensified at both ends of the table following the conclusion of matchweek 20 of the Arabian Gulf League.

Sharjah collected a valuable 2-1 win over Bani Yas to reach the 50-point mark. They now need nine more points from their six remaining games to officially seal the league title.

On the other hand, this marked Bani Yas’ first home defeat in the season as they now sit fifth on 33 points.

Second-placed Shabab Al Ahli collected an easy 4-2 win over Al Wasl to keep the nine-point difference with leaders Sharjah.

Al Jazira swapped places with Al Ain as the Pride of Abu Dhabi snatched a 4-2 win over Ittihad Kalba to move to third place on 38 points.

They are one point above the Boss who fell to a surprising 4-0 defeat to Ajman, which complicated their situation after their 5-1 defeat to Al Jazira last week.

Meanwhile, Al Wahda fell to a 2-1 defeat to Al Nasr to remain in sixth place on 31 points.

Competition intensifies

The middle of the table saw a lot of changes with Ajman jumping to seventh place on 27 points after beating Al Ain. They are three points above eighth-placed Al Dhafra who lost to Emirates Club 3-2.

Al Nasr maintained their run of positive results as they defeated Al Wahda. They now sit in ninth place on 23 points.

Al Wasl are frozen on 23 points in 10th place after their 4-2 defeat to Shabab Al Ahli. They are two points above 11th-placed Ittihad Kalba who lost to Al Jazira.

The competition flared between Fujairah, Emirates Club and Dibba at the bottom of the table.

The Falcons moved out of the relegation zone after earning a 3-2 win over Al Dhafra and reached the 15-point mark. This marked Emirates’ first victory since their win over Fujairah in matchweek 10.

The Sailors defeated Fujairah 2-1 in the derby. Dibba remained 14th but raised their point tally to 11, three behind Fujairah who dropped to 13th place.

A total of 30 goals were scored in matchweek 20 with an average of 4.2 goals per game.

Despite not scoring this week, Al Jazira’s Ali Mabkhout maintained his spot at the top of the goalscoring charts with 19 goals. He, however, might lose his spot after being shown the red card against Kalba.

He sits one goal above Al Wahda's Sebastián Tagliabué who scored against Al Nasr to raise his tally to 18 goals.
