Arabian Gulf League Matchweek 14

Sharjah cemented their position at the top of the standings after Al Ain and Al Jazira dropped points in matchweek 14 of the Arabian Gulf League.

Sharjah earned a late 2-1 win over Al Dhafra at Khalid bin Mohamed Stadium. Abdallah ElRefaey gave the Western Knights an early lead before Igor Coronado equalized and Moatasem Yassin scored a last-gasp winner to cement his side’s position at the top of the standings.

The King now have 34 points, widening the gap with second-placed Al Ain to five points. Meanwhile, Al Dhafra remain frozen on 14 points in 10th place.

Title contenders Al Ain were held to a goalless draw with Emirates Club at the Hazza bin Zayed Stadium. The Boss, who still have a game in hand, are on 29 points, while Emirates Club collected their 10th points but remained in 13th place.

Al Jazira also missed a chance to keep pace with Sharjah after suffering a late 1-0 defeat to Shabab Al Ahli at the Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium. Ahmed Khalil scored a last-gasp winner to help Shabab Al Ahli collect three valuable points. They are now tied with the Pride of Abu Dhabi on 28 points.

In a bottom of the table clash, Al Wasl earned a 2-1 comeback win over Dibba at Fujariah Stadium. This marked the Cheetahs fourth win of the season as they now moved to 11th place on 14 points, while the Sailors continue to struggle at the bottom of the standings on four points only.

After an impressive first half, which saw them take a 4-0 advantage, Al Wahda earned a 4-2 away win over Ittihad Kalba to sit sixth on 21 points, with a game in hand. The Tigers, however, remained eighth on 18 points.

In the middle of the table, Al Nasr and Ajman played out a thrilling 2-2 draw at Rashid bin Saeed Stadium. Following the conclusion of matchweek 14, the Blues now have 16 points in ninth place, three behind the Oranges, who sit seventh.

It was Bani Yas who collected the biggest win of matchweek 14 after beating Fujairah 4-0 at home. The Sky Blues jumped to fifth place on 21 points, while Fujairah dropped to 12th with 13 points.

A total of 21 goals were scored in matchweek 14 with an average of three goals per match.

Two players managed to score a brace in matchweek 14, namely Álvaro Negredo and Myke Ramos, who now have 11 and eight goals to their names, respectively. Meanwhile, Ali Mabkhout and Brazilian forward Welliton Soares maintained their places at the top of goalscoring charts with 15 goals each.

Following matchweek 14, third-placed Al Jazira and sixth-placed Al Wahda hold the best attacking record with 37 goals each, while Al Ain boast the best defensive records in the league, as they conceded 11 goals so far.
