Following the conclusion of matchweek 5 of the Arabian Gulf Cup, two more teams secured their spots in the quarterfinal of the tournament.

Al Ain and Al Nasr sealed their spots in the next round, joining Al Wahda who have already secured qualification in the previous round.

The Boss defeated Fujairah 3-1 on Monday to reach the 12-point mark after collecting four victories and falling to one defeat. They now sit second in Group B. Meanwhile, Fujairah remain frozen on one point and sit sixth.

Al Nasr continued their perfect start to the group stage as they earned their fourth win in a row from as many matches, defeating Al Jazira 2-1. They remain on top of Group B with 12 points, while Al Jazira are fourth on four points after winning two games, losing two and drawing one.

The final game of Group B saw Al Dhafra edge Sharjah 1-0 on Tuesday. The Western Knights now moved to third place on seven points, while Sharjah continued their disappointing results as they remain winless on zero points at the bottom of the group.

In Group A, Al Wasl earned a late 1-0 win over Ajman and Al Wasl now have four points in fifth place from four games. The Oranges also have four points but have only one game left in the group stage as they lost three games, drew one and lost one.

Meanwhile, Dibba moved to third place after beating Shabab Al Ahli 1-0. They are both now tied on six points after each of them won two games and lost two.

Al Wahda, who have already secured qualification, settled for their first draw in the group stage as they played out a 0-0 draw with Bani Yas. Al Wahda remain on top of the group on 13 points, while Bani Yas are second on eight points from two draws and two wins as they edge closer to securing a spot in the quarterfinals.

A total of 10 goals were scored in matchweek 5 of the cup with an average of 1.6 goals per match. The only game that ended goalless was Bani Yas’ encounter with Al Wahda.

Al Ain’s Caio Lucas Fernandes sit at the top of the goalscoring charts with seven goals, three ahead of second-placed Leonardo da Silva Souza, who plays for Al Wahda.

Al Wahda boast the best defensive record in the tournament as they are yet to concede a goal after five games, while Al Ain have the best attacking record having scored a total of 11 goals.
