AGLeague, Al Jazira cruise past Al Wasl 2-0 in the match of the week
Al Jazira cruised past Al Wasl with a 2-0 win at Mohammad bin Zayed Stadium in matchweek 9 of the Arabian Gulf League on Monday.
Five minutes after the break, Al Jazira opened the scoring after capitalizing on a defensive mistake. Following a good play between Khalfan Mubarak and Ali Mabkhout, the former slotted the ball past the Al Wasl keeper to make it 1-0. Around the one-hour mark, Al Jazira made it 2-0.
Mabkhout turned from provider to scorer, as he headed in Mubarak’s corner to get his name into the scoresheet. In the 76th minute, Mabkhout was close to scoring a third goal but was denied by Al Was keeper Yousef Abdalla Al Zaabi.
Al Wasl had a number of attempts to reduce the deficit but failed to hit the back of the net. The Al Jazria keeper Adel Abu Baker pulled out a smart save to deny Fabio De Lima’s effort.
Following the win, Al Jazira maintained their position in second place on 19 points, while Dibba continue to linger at the bottom of the table on four points, having collected only one win this season.
