QNB Stars League Week 10 Highlights
The Week 10 of the QNB Stars League witnessed high action and drama. There were some surprise changes in the teams’ positions as well. Three matches were high-scoring ones, while only one game was drawn.
Holders Al Duhail stayed on top with a come-from-behind 4-1 win over Al Kharaitiyat. The Red Knights have 22 points.
After Al Kharaitiyat took a surprise lead through Valentin Lazar, Al Duhail got down to business and replied through Bassam Al Rawi, Mohammed Moosa and Yousef El Arabi (two goals).
The shocker of the week was Al Sadd losing 1-4 to Al Ahli. The Wolves’ Portuguese coach Jesualdo Ferreira had said at the pre-match Press conference that his players had not recovered psychologically from their AFC Champions League semifinal aggregate defeat at the hands of Iran’s Persepolis.
Apparently, that is what happened on the pitch as Al Sadd did not get their way against Al Ahli, for whom Omid Ibrahimi led from the front with two goals. Abdelrahman Mohammed and Mohammed Muntari were the other scorers, while Baghdad Bounedjah gave Al Sadd’s sole reply.
Al Sadd slipped from second to third position in the standings as they stood on 17 points. Dropping three crucial points is sure to be a serious blow to their title hopes.
Al Ahli, nevertheless, stayed sixth with 15 points.
