The QNB Stars League’s Week 9, that saw five matches being played over Saturday and Sunday, witnessed some exciting contests and incredible results.

The match between Al Sadd and Al Duhail, which was to be played on Sunday, 21st October, was rescheduled for 11th December in view of Al Sadd’s AFC Champions League second-leg semifinal against Iran’s Persepolis in Tehran on Tuesday, 23rd October.

Nevertheless, Al Duhail and Al Sadd occupied the first and second position in the standings respectively with 19 and 17 points. The first five positions remained unchanged, with Al Sailiya, Al Rayyan and Umm Salal following in that order.

The much-anticipated game between Al Rayyan and Al Gharafa ended in an entertaining 1-1 draw.

Al Rayyan surged ahead through Rodrigo Tabata, but Al Gharafa drew level via a Diogo Amado goal.

Al Rayyan stood fourth with 15 points, whereas Al Gharafa slipped from seventh to eighth with 11 points.

Promoted team Al Shahania pulled off a coup by defeating high-flying Al Sailiya 3-1. In the process, they jumped from 10th to ninth spot with 10 points.

Younes Darwish, Saad Al Sowan and Claudio Vazquez scored for the winners, while Rachid Tiberkanine found the only goal for Al Sailiya who stayed third with 16 points.

Al Khor extended their winning streak by beating Al Kharaitiyat 5-1 and moved from 11th to 10th position with eight points.

Wagner Ferreira led Al Khor’s goal-scoring spree with a brace, with Diogo Da Silva Farias, Rebin Solaka and Hamad Mohsen also contributing. Al Kharaitiyat had opened the scoring as early as the fourth minute through Abdraman Mahamat, but they could never build on the advantage.

The Knights had scored an upset victory over formidable Al Rayyan in the previous round.
