Al Jazira topple Al Ain in match of the week

Arabian Gulf League week 6

Yaqoub Al Hosani's late goal snatched an important win for Al Jazira as they defeated Al Ain 2-1 at Hazza Bin Zayed Stadium in the final fixture of the Arabian Gulf League matchweek 6.

Al Jazira were on the front foot from the start as Khalfan Mubarak received a defence-splitting through pass behind Al Ain defence. The playmaker cut inside the box skillfully before his left footed strike was saved by Khalid Eissa eight minutes into the game.

Just three minutes later, the Pride of Abu Dhabi came close to opening the scoring once again, when Mubarak released Ernest Asante with a well-placed through pass, however, the Ghanaian's low shot was blocked by Eissa, to deny the visitors their first goal of the night.

Markus Berg broke the deadlock for the Boss in the 33rd minute, when Mohamed Abdulrahman found the Swede in space with a clever pass. The forward drilled the ball into the bottom corner, making it 1-0.

Just five minutes before the full time whistle, Leonardo Pereira scored the leveler for Al Jazira, when his long range freekick shot left Eissa helpless in goal.

Al Hosani snatched the full three points for the visitors in the dying moments of the game, as he advanced towards Al Ain's box and unleashed a brilliant left footed curler that nestled into the back of Eissa's net.

The win takes Al Jazira up to 14 points, level with Sharjah at the top of the table, ahead of their encounter against Ittihad Kalba. Meanwhile, Al Ain drop to the third spot with 13 points and are set to face Ajman in matchweek 7 of the Arabian Gulf League.
