AGLeague, two Tuesday games spearhead matchweek
Matchweek 4 of the Arabian Gulf League kicks off with two games on Tuesday exceptionally as Al Jazira and Al Wasl navigate Arab Club Championship commitments over the weekend. The action resumes with two games on Thursday and further three on Friday.
The first matchweek 4 fixture sees Ajman host Al Jazira at the Rashid bin Saeed stadium at 17:25. The Pride of Abu Dhabi lost their perfect record in the league this season after a 2-2 draw with Bani Yas in the previous matchweek left them in fourth place with seven points.
On the other side, despite their great start of the season with an away 1-0 win against Al Nasr, the Oranges have suffered two consecutive defeats afterwards against Shabab Al Ahli and Fujairah respectively.
Ajman faced a great challenge in matchweek 3 after seeing Waleed Abdallah red carded just 24 minutes into the game. A challenge that they almost conquered as they were so close to earning one point before their opposition scored in stoppage time. Their sum of points remains at three points.
The second game on Tuesday sees Al Wasl host Emirates in Zabeel at 20:00. The Cheetahs kicked off their season with a home win, followed by an away draw then a defeat on the road. They are sixth with four points after three games.
On the contrary, Emirates have earned their first three points of the season last matchweek as they beat Dibba 3-2 putting them in tenth.
The first game on Thursday sees Dibba host Al Dhafra at 17:20 at Fujairah stadium. Both sides are yet to record any wins this season, with Dibba having the worst defensive record this season with ten goals conceded - equal to Al Nasr’s - and Al Dhafra having the worst attacking record with one scored goal to date. The home side sit in 13th with three defeats while the visitors are at last place.
Bani Yas host league leaders Al Wahda at 20:00 at Bani Yas stadium. The Sky Blues drew all of their games this season putting them in ninth. The Clarets, on the other side, have collected all nine points, beating Al Wasl in the process 4-1 sending them top of the table.
Friday’s game stars with Ittihad Kalba hosting Al Nasr at Kalba stadium at 17:20. The Tigers registered their second consecutive win last matchweek as they won against Al Dhafra 2-0 to reach the six-point mark.
On the other hand, Al Nasr are yet to collect a single point since the beginning of the season as they suffered three defeats, the last being against Al Ain at home 0-3 leaving them in 12th.
At 17:25 UAE time, Khalid bin Mohamed Stadium sees Sharjah go against Fujairah. The King extended their winning run following a difficult win against Shabab Al Ahli 2-1. They sit in second place with nine points.
The Wolves succeeded in collecting their first three points of the season last matchweek as they came back to beat 10-men Ajman 2-1. Fujairah split sixth place with Al Wasl with four points each.
Saving the best till last, Match of the Week sees Al Ain host Shabab Al Ahli at the Hazza bin Zayed Stadium at 20:00 on Friday.
The Boss, with three wins on the trot, have the best defensive record this season as they have only conceded twice. They sit in third behind Al Wahda and Sharjah on goal difference.
Shabab Al Ahli suffered a defeat last matchweek against Sharjah 1-2 to see their point tally stop at three points in eighth position.
