QNB Stars League, week 6 highlights

The Qatar Clasico, that expectedly turned out to be a huge success on and off the field, highlighted the QNB Stars League’s Week 6, played over Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

The Qatar Clasico, where Al Sadd defeated Al Rayyan by a 5-1 margin, lived up to its top billing and The Wolves are back on top of the table with 13 points, the same as Al Duhail who defeated Al Gharafa 4-2 in another spotlight match.

Al Sadd occupied the top spot on goal difference, while Al Rayyan slipped from top to fifth position. Al Gharafa dropped from sixth to seventh.

Al Sadd and Al Duhail have played one game less as their Week 5 matches were rescheduled due to AFC Champions League quarterfinal fixtures.

Algerian striker Baghdad Bounedjah continued to be the tournament top scorer with 13 goals after he contributed a brace to Al Sadd’s big win.

Akram Afif, also of Al Sadd, added one more to his tally from the Clasico to stay second in the list with seven goals.

Moroccan striker Yousef El Arabi struck a double for Al Duhail against Al Gharafa to be on five goals.

Umm Salal recorded their second successive victory when they got the better of Al Kharaitiyat 2-1. Ivorian striker Yannick Sagbo scored both their goals to take his tally to six goals and be the third player in the scorers’ chart.

Umm Salal moved from seventh to sixth with 10 points, while Al Kharaitiyat’s woes compounded having lost all their games.

Al Sailiya defeating Al Ahli 4-2 was the other high-scoring match. The victory also helped The Peregrines to the third position with 12 points, above Al Arabi, who have the same number of points, on goal difference.

Al Ahli remained ninth on six points.

Al Arabi got back to winning ways with a 3-0 verdict over Al Shahania. It was the Dream Team’s fourth victory, the same number as Al Sadd, Al Duhail and Al Sailiya.

Al Shahania stood eighth with seven points.

Qatar SC and Al Khor were goalless in the only drawn game of the sixth round that saw as many as 23 goals being scored.

Qatar SC and Al Khor remained 10th and 11th respectively with four and two points respectively.
