The Arabian Gulf Cup wheels are spinning again as the competition resumes with matchweek 2 taking place on Friday and Saturday. Teams go into this weekend round of games having reached good fitness levels after playing three league matches following the first matchweek of the cup.
Matchweek 2 promises a lot of action as teams race to collect early points to help seal their positions in the quarter-finals stage that was introduced this season for the first time where four teams progress from each group instead of two.
Group B leaders Emirates get the action underway on Friday at 17:15 as they host Al Wasl who are only behind in goal difference. Emirates had beaten Sharjah 2-0 while Al Wasl overcame Dibba 3-2. Both sides aim to get the three points to move clear at the top of the group.
In group A, Hatta welcome Al Nasr to Hamdan bin Rashid Stadium in the other Friday 17:15 kick-off. The Blues who lead the group after beating Ajman in matchweek 1 look to tighten their grip on the top spot by adding three more points. Hatta started the competition with a 2-2 draw against Al Ain and go into the Friday game to prove their ability to compete with the top teams. Al Jazira and Al Ain conclude Friday's action with their clash in Abu Dhabi as both teams collected one point in the opening matchweek.
Day 2 starts with Ajman welcoming Al Dhafra to Rashid bin Saeed Stadium in group A. The hosts are without a point while the visitors have one point to their name. The second 17:15 kick-off takes place at Fujairah Stadium where Dibba host Al Wahda in group B. Dibba lost their first match to Al Wasl while Al Wahda collected a point from Shabab Al Ahli Dubai who in turn conclude matchweek 2 games at 20:00 against zero-points Sharjah at Rashid Stadium.
