Al Wahda bow out of Arab Championship
Arabian Gulf League representatives Al Wahda bowed out of the Arab Club Championship with a 3-1 defeat to Egyptian champions Al Ahly in the second round of Group A at Cairo's Peace Stadium.
The Maroons suffered an early blow as Captain Hamdan Al Kamali hobbled off with an injury after just three minutes. Romanian coach Laurentiu Reghecampf called on defensive midfielder Mohamed Al Abdulla replaced the injured Al Kamali.
Al Ahly opened the scoring on the half-hour mark when Amr Barakat fired in from an angle into the near corner beating goalkeeper Mohamed Al Shamsi.
Al Wahda attempted to find an equaliser in the second half and Balazs Dzsuzsak tried his luck from distance but his shot went just wide.
Seven minutes from time, Al Ahly skipper Hossam Ghaly rounded Al Shamsi & laid the ball back to Islam Muhareb who applied the finish into the empty net to double the Egyptians' lead as it ended 2-0.
Al Wahda face Jordan's Al Faisaly in the final match of the group stage.
