Sanchez to take temporary charge of Qatar
Doha: Spaniard Felix Sanchez will temporarily step up from his role as head coach of Qatar’s U-23 team to take charge of the country’s final 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, it has been announced.
The move comes following the departure of previous incumbent Jorge Fossati who resigned in the wake of Qatar’s sensational 3-2 victory over Korea Republic last month.
Ahead of games against Syria in August and China in September, Qatar currently occupy fifth spot in Group A, with their hopes of qualifying for next year’s World Cup in Russia hanging by the slenderest of threads.
Under Sanchez, Qatar reached the semi-finals of the 2016 AFC U23 Championship on home soil.
