QSL champions Lekhwiya reigned supreme at the season QFA awards on Saturday evening, with Red Knights players walking away with three individual awards. The event, which was held in the presence of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani, President of the Qatar Football Associaion, along with a host of football officials from the state of Qatar. .
In the Football for All award, was won by Shell for their Kooka time football initive to encourage childen in Qatar to play football.
Best Referee award.
The Trio of Abdul Rahman Ibrahim al Jassim, Talib Al Marri, and Saoud Ahmed Saoud Al Makalih jointly picked up the best referee award. Which was the first time the award had been given out at the QFA awards.
Top scorer- Mansour Muftah award
Moroccan striker Yusef El Arabi of Lekhwiya picked up the Mansor Muftah award for scoring 24 goals in just 18 appearances for the QSL champions this season.
Best player Under 23
Almoez Ali picked up the award for the best player under 23 beating Al Gharafa keeper Yusef Hassan and Salem Al-Hajri of Al Sadd to lift the title. Almoez enjoyed an impressive breakout season with the Red Knights, contributing significantly to Lekhwiya’s fifth ever QSL title.
Coach of the year
Al Sadd boss Jesualdo Ferriera won the best coach of the season, following a strong competition with Algerian coach Djamel Belmadi of Lekhwiya and French coach Sabri Lamouchi of El Jaish. Al Sadd enjoyed a trophy laden season under the leadership of the Portuguese coach finishing second in the league and winning both the Qatar and Emir Cups.
Player of the Year
South Korean star Nam Tae Hee, claimed the prestigious player of the year award for his starring role in Lekhwiya’s run to their fifth ever QSL falcon shield. Nam won the award beating the Al Sadd duo of Hassan Haydos and Xavi for the title.
