El Jaish defeated the current QSL Champions, Lekhwiya in an exciting Qatar Cup semi-final at Al Sadd stadium on Friday evening. The fans in attendance had plenty of entertainment as the five-goal thriller ended in favour of the Soldiers.
The came kicked off with explosive pace as Lekhwiya pushed forward to try an get an early lead, however, a sixth-minute header came off the post.In the twenty-fourth minute El Jaish’s captain, Seydou Keita capitalised on some dismal defending and scored from close range after Lekhwiya failed to clear the corner.
After the opening goal, the game became very physical and the game saw a lot of rough tackles. In the thirty-eighth minute, a scuffle broke out and 3 yellow cards were given out to Karim Budaif, Nam Tae Hee and Mohammed Methnani. Moments later the first half ended with Sabri Lamouchi’s men on the front foot.
Four minutes into the second half Romarinho’s goal doubled his side’s advantage. A diving header from the Brazilian forward after a Murad Naji cross made the score 2-0 for El Jaish. Just one minute later Ismail Mohammed of Lekhwiya pulled one back to make it 2-1. His header went into the near side of the net after he connected with a cross from the right.
In the seventy-seventh minute, Edgar Da Silva drew level for the Cops. Ismail Mohammed made a cut back pass to his well-positioned Brazilian team mate who then scored a tap in goal to draw level.
It seemed like Djemal Belmadi’s men were heading into extra time but all hopes were dashed when lightning-paced Sardor Rashidov regained El Jaish’s Lead. The Uzbek international made a solo run from the halfway line after some brilliant counter-attacking play by his side. He then drove his way into the box and sent it into the far corner past the keeper, Qasem Burhan with a left footed strike to cap off his man of the match performance.
With the win, El Jaish book their place in their second consecutive final. Sabri Lamouchi’s men will now face Jesualdo Ferreira’s Al Sadd in the final on 29th of April at 7 pm at the Al Sadd Stadium. Tickets for the final are available at www.qsl.qa
