Muscat: Hassan Al Saadi’s own goal in the first half earned all three points for Al Zawraa in their Group A meeting with Oman’s Al Suwaiq in the 2017 AFC Cup on Tuesday, with the result meaning the Iraqi side cannot finish outside the top two in the standings.
Al Saadi could do little to prevent Amjad Kalaf’s header from bouncing off his chest and crossing his own goal line in the 25th minute, with the goal proving the deciding factor between the two teams.
The three points move Al Zawraa onto 11 points from five games and they remain two points clear of Syria’s Al Jaish with just one game remaining in the Group Stage. Al Suwaiq and Al Ahli have been eliminated.
Only the side finishing top of the group will be assured of a spot in the Zonal Semi-finals.
