Arabian Gulf League Awards 2016/17
PLC ANNOUNCES AGL AWARDS CATEGORIES AND VOTING MECHANISM
The Pro League Committee has announced the categories for the fifth Arabian Gulf League awards where the stars of the 2016/17 season will be crowned in an awards ceremony scheduled for May 15th.
The PLC will award winners in five categories based on voting; The Golden Ball Award for the Best Emirati Player, The Golden Ball Award for the Best Foreign Player, The Leader Award for the Best Head Coach, The Golden Boy Award for the Best Young Player and The Golden Gloves Award for the Best Goalkeeper.
Further five awards will be decided based on statistics; The BEST XI Award, The Golden Shoe Award for the Arabian Gulf League's Top Goal Scorer, The Silver Shoe Award for the Under 21 League Top Goal Scorer, the Arabian Gulf League Fantasy Football Manager of The Year Award and the Professional Club of The Year Award.
The shortlists for the awards will be chosen subject to strict criteria; only players who have played 16 league matches or more this season qualify for the "Golden Ball" and "Golden Gloves" awards. Coaches need to have managed in 10 matches or more and collected at least 50% of the points in those matches to qualify for the "Leader" award. The shortlist for "Golden Boy" award will include only players born in or after 1995 who have played in at least six Arabian Gulf League matches this season.
The technical committee will select nominees based on technical and statistical data to rank players and create a shortlist of ten players for each of the Golden Ball for Best Emirati Player and the Golden Ball for the Best Foreign Player award. Five players will be shortlisted for each of the remaining categories "Golden Gloves, Leader and Golden Boy". The shortlists will be distributed to the voters who will include pundits, club captains and coaches, media and fans to select their top five in each category. Five points will be allocated to the first pick, four for second, three for third, two for fourth pick and one point for the fifth pick.
