AFC Champions League match preview - Al Ahli (UAE) vs. Taawoun
Abu Dhabi: Al Ahli of the United Arab Emirates will look to get back to winning ways when the 2015 AFC Champions League runners-up host debutants Al Taawoun at Rashid Stadium in Group A on Monday.
The Emiratis saw off Esteghlal 2-1 in their previous match in front of home support on Matchday One but, after losing 2-0 to Lokomotiv two weeks ago, will also be wary Al Taawoun, having won just once in 10 attempts against Saudi Arabian opposition. Since they last appeared on the continent, though, Al Ahli have defeated both Al Jazira and Al Dhafra in the Arabian Gulf League.
Opponents Al Taawoun, meanwhile, secured a debut win by seeing off Lokomotiv 1-0 on Matchday One before being brought back down to earth with a 3-0 defeat to Esteghlal a week later. But Constantin Galca’s side will go into the clash with confidence following a 1-0 win over Al Ittifaq in the Saudi Pro League on Thursday.
