Arabian Gulf League “Round of Hope” brings joy to children with cancer
Round 20 of the Arabian Gulf League saw the launch of a meaningful, humane initiative. The "Round of Hope" initiative in support of children with cancer, organised by the Pro League Committee, gave the opportunity to a number of children diagnosed with cancer across the country to participate in league matches, meeting their favourite players, taking part in an exhibition kick-off and scoring a goal. The initiative was met by great response from the players and fans who supported the children, lifting their spirits and bringing a smile to their faces.
Mr. Waleed Al Hosani, Acting CEO of the PLC spoke about the initiative, "We worked to schedule a number of community and humanitarian initiatives in line with the declaration of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, announcing 2017 to be ‘The Year of Giving' in the UAE", added Al Hosani, "We believe in football as a means of connecting various sections of our community, so we were keen to hold the initiatives along with Arabian Gulf League matches to engage clubs, players and fans in the message we aim to send in each round". Recounting initiatives successfully organised by the PLC so far, Al Hosani elaborated, "We began with the ‘Feekom Al Khair' to honour the unknown soldiers, the workers who spent years of their lives working at clubs. Then came the ‘Fair Support' initiative, where we highlighted the importance of fair support without intolerance through honouring fans on the pitch in pre-match. Over two rounds, we organised [Symbols of Giving] initiative to honour founders and former players for the roles they played in our clubs. Finally, it was the ‘Round of Hope' initiative to support children with cancer and integrate them in society and send out a message of hope and ability to beat cancer with determination and optimism".
