Qatar Stars League - Saturday preview
Round 23 of the QSL season is rounded off with two games involving two title chasing sides. All four sides will be targeting a moral boosting win ahead of the league taking a break for a month ahead of Qatar’s World Cup Qualifiers.
The first game of the day will see Al Rayyan take on bottom of the table Al Wakrah in the 16:55pm KO at Al Sadd stadium. Michael Laudrup’s side fell to a 2-1loss to Al Hilal in the Champions League and will be looking to regain their league form. Last season’s QSL champions could jump back into third place in the standings with the victory.
As for Al Wakrah they are rock bottom of the QSL standings with 14 points from 22 games. The Blue Waves are currently seven points away from safety and desperately need a victory to keep their slim survival hopes alive.
The final match of the QSL weekend will see an in-form Al Kharaitiyat side take on Lekhwiya at Al Khor stadium. The Thunders have picked up three wins on the bounce, which has seen Ahmad Al-Ajlani’s side pull well away from the relegation zone. A fourth straight win will be the sides best run in the league this season, and give the squad plenty of confidence that they can beat the drop ahead of the break in the league.
Whilst for Lekhwiya, they know that a victory could push them back to the top of the QSL standings, following Al Sadd dropping points in their 0-0 draw against Umm Salal on Thursday evening. It’s also likely that Djamel Belmadi will shuffle around his squad following Lekhwiya’s exploits in the AFC Champions League where they gained a creditable 2-2 draw away from home against Al Fatah.
