As Qatar celebrates National Sport Day, the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC) has created the Journey to Amazing 2016 film to celebrate the progress it is making on the road towards the 2022 FIFA World Cup™.
he film looks back at the development of stadiums and SC legacy programmes throughout a momentous year. Reflecting on 2016, H.E. Hassan Al Thawadi, SC Secretary General, said: “We’re moving at a very good pace, whether it’s in terms of delivery of projects, stadiums, infrastructure, or even initiatives surrounding the World Cup.
Journey to Amazing 2016 highlights the expansion of the Challenge 22 and Generation Amazing programmes, as well as the SC’s ongoing commitment to workers’ welfare. There is also a glimpse of the Legacy Pavilion, an interactive exhibition – completed last year – that tells the story of the 2022 FIFA World Cup Qatar™.
Looking ahead to that tournament, Al Thawadi said: “This World Cup will be a game changer, through being located in a very central part of the globe, through the many different innovations that we’ll be providing for the World Cup, but also for the fact that it’s the first Middle Eastern, Arab World Cup. It will go down in history as a benchmark.” Meanwhile, Assistant Secretary General Nasser Al Khater also added his own words of excitement, and pride at how the SC continues to deliver for the people of Qatar, and the Middle East. He said: “It’s imperative that you have the support of the local and regional communities. We have programmes that have engaged them and we believe that this World Cup is for them.”
