Leonardo: I want to help Al Jazira to be the best team in Asia
Abu Dhabi: Recent signing Leonardo has vowed to make Al Jazira the best club In Asia following his transfer to the United Arab Emirates outfit from Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors.
The 30-year-old forward, who sensationally helped guide Jeonbuk to their second continental crown in November, joined the Mohammed Bin Zayed Stadium last week, and is now determined to play a major role in Al Jazira’s quest for honours both domestically and in the AFC Champions League.
“It’s a new team and a new home for me," Leonardo told reporters at the weekend.
"When I was in Korea I had a desire to move to the UAE. Al Jazira opened that door for me.
“I want to be here for many years and help this club to win every title and to be the best team in Asia.”
Despite Leonardo’s proven track record, Al Jazira head coach Henk ten Cate has challenged the Brazilian to scale even greater heights..
“He brings in all the basic skills, mentality, physical condition, technical quality and experience," the Dutchman declared.
"This is important. Now he must show, particularly to me and the team, he is better than what we had."
In this season's AFC Champions League, Al Jazira have been drawn in Group B where they will face Iran’s Esteghlal Khouzestan, Lekhwiya from Qatar and a yet to be determined Play-off winner.
