Deadline for decision on Kuwait’s participation extended
The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has extended the deadline to confirm the status of the suspension of the Kuwait Football Association (KFA) for their participation - or not - in the AFC Asian Cup UAE 2019 – Qualifiers Final Round – at the request of the Kuwait Football Association, following a decision which was made by the AFC Competitions Committee on November 24, 2016.
The AFC Competitions Committee has agreed to consider the status of Kuwait and their participation in the qualifiers if there is sufficient progress towards the lifting of the suspension by FIFA by January 11, 2017 – the day after the next meeting of the FIFA Council. At present Kuwait are suspended from all football by FIFA. The January 11 deadline will be final and should the situation regarding the Kuwait FA not have changed, the Kuwait team will be replaced in the draw, which will take place on January 23, 2017, in Abu Dhabi.
